Non-Cash Payments Mix

Cash-in-Circulation as a Percentage of Gross Domestic Product, 2015

The ratio of Cash-in-Circulation (CIC) to gross domestic product (GDP) is increasing at a higher pace globally except in Denmark, the U.K., Sweden, Canada, and South Africa, which may hamper efforts to create cashless societies. Several countries in Asia Pacific have higher CIC to GDP ratios, which suggests an opportunity to increase per capita non-cash transactions and transform into digital economies.
